Home Additions That Feel Like They Were Always Part of the House
More house, or different house, without leaving the neighborhood you already love
What Makes an Addition Different
Half Renovation, Half New Construction, All Integration
Most families around Lake Norman don't want to move. They like the schools, the neighbors, the trees they planted a decade ago. They just need the house to do more. An addition is the answer, and it's the hardest kind of residential project to hide. A new build is built to look new. A remodel stays inside the existing footprint. An addition has to be both at once: something new that reads like it has always been there.
That means matching rooflines, siding, trim profiles, and window styles well enough that the new work disappears into the house. It means opening the existing structure where the load paths say to, not wherever is easiest. It means planning mechanical work, electrical runs, and HVAC load for the combined footprint, not just the new square footage. Done right, the addition becomes the favorite room in the house within a month and stays that way a decade on.
Our Process
How an Addition Build Runs With Us
Additions live or die in the planning. Before we put a number on the work, we come to the house, walk through the existing structure with you, and look at the conditions the new work will tie into. Load paths, mechanical runs, foundation, roof line. The first call is short and focused on what you want more of, where you are in the timeline, and what you've got in mind for the budget. The on-site visit is where the real scoping happens.
From there we write a proposal that includes a written breakdown of what's in your cost, with our profit and overhead listed separately, so you can see what the job costs versus what we make to run it. The number at the bottom is the number. Once the contract is signed and the deposit is in, we pull permits and start work. Demolition on an addition almost always reveals something we couldn't see before, so we handle those discoveries the same way we handle every change: write up the change order, explain the cost, and wait for your approval before moving forward.
Common Questions
What Most Clients Ask Before an Addition
- How long does an addition take?expand_more
- Most additions run three to six months from start to finish, depending on size, complexity, and the existing structure we're tying into. We give you a timeline with the proposal so you know what to expect before work starts.
- Can we live in the house during the addition?expand_more
- In most cases, yes. We coordinate the work to minimize disruption to the parts of the house you're using day to day, and we keep dust and access controlled at the work area. There are some scenarios (like second-story builds that affect your bedroom level) where we'll talk through whether staying makes sense.
- Do you do design work in-house?expand_more
- No. We're a general contractor, not a design-build firm. You're welcome to bring your own architect or designer, or we can recommend partners around Lake Norman who fit the kind of work you have in mind.
- What if demolition turns up something unexpected?expand_more
- Additions reveal more than other projects because we're opening the existing structure. When we find something, we stop, document it, and walk you through the options and cost. Changes get written up as a change order with your approval before we move on them.

What It's Like to Work With Us
"Highly recommend Luke for anything you need done in your home. He built custom closets and kitchen pantry for us and asked a bunch of questions so make sure it was exactly how we wanted it. I gave him my vision and he did above and beyond! Luke also installed LVP flooring and it looks amazing! So happy with all the work that was done!"
Nicole Feller
"We couldn’t be happier with our new bathroom! From the very beginning, Luke Beaudoin was a true professional—kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. He took the time to listen to what we wanted and made sure every detail was just right. It’s not easy letting someone tear apart a part of your home, but Luke made the whole process smooth and stress-free.
His crew was always on time, respectful of our space, and cleaned up each day like true gentlemen. The quality of the work speaks for itself—our bathroom is now beautiful, functional, and easy for us to get around in (which means a lot at our age!).
We’ve had quite a few remodels over the years, but this was by far the best experience. Luke truly takes pride in his work, and it shows. Thank you, Luke, for treating us and our home with such care!"
James Hopp
